Our Story

Even when you think you have your life all mapped out, things happen that shape your destiny in ways you might never have imagined.

My Polish mother-in-law Henryka, taught me to crochet in 1973, whilst I was living in Poland for a year. It was from here my love for crochet grew into a much-loved hobby.

In 1999, when life threw me a curveball called breast cancer, everything changed for me. I withdrew from my university course, which reduced my stress levels and allowed me to focus on healing. I took up crochet and knitting again which helped me to relax and to move forward in my life.

Between 2005 and 2008 I was selling my crochet and knit garments at weekend markets in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia and Friday markets in Spitalfields, London, UK.

Barbara Summers Hand Knit and Crochet website www.crocknit.com was officially launched in August 2008, as an online shop for crochet and knit garments.

When we returned to the UK in 2009, I decided to only spend my free time on designing crochet and hand knit patterns, so I could enjoy other leisure activities such as walking, touring and photography.

In 2011-2012 I designed a few patterns for DMC Creative World Ltd, in the following years my designs were also published in the Inside Crochet Magazine.

You will find my patterns are written in USA American crochet terms and some are written in UK British crochet terms, free patterns and pay patterns are available from my online shops namely:

Ravelry and LoveCrochet.
